Dear Praying Family and Friends,
“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks let him speak as it were the utterances of God; whoever serves let him do so as by the strength which God supplies so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:10-11. We are to serve others in God’s grace. We are to tell others about God. WHY? So God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. This is the Gospel and this is why we have been called by God to serve Him in the Amazon region of Brazil.
What a blessed month we have had! We know that your prayers for us and the construction of the floating house continue to be heard and answered. A lot of the house is completed now…we only have ½ of the walls in the hallway left to put up and the walls and ceiling on the food pantry left to put up also. Once the inside walls and ceilings are complete, we will sand the floors and varnish them, sand the outside walls and varnish them, paint the walk-around, and put trim on all the windows and doors. Also, the electricity should be all completed by the end of next week.
This month we are sending out a picture of the floor plan of the floating house so that you can see how it is laid out. The training/great room will be used to disciple Brazilians and it will also be used as a dining room when we have teams helping us. Off the back of the floating house we built a patio/porch where we will have a BBQ grill so we can have people over to the house. We have installed 12 hammock hooks (6 in the training/great room and 6 on the patio/porch) so we can have people stay with us. Furthermore, we have three functioning bathrooms with running water and showers (*see attached picture).
Many people have asked us how big the logs are that support the floating house. We are sending a picture that was taken in November 2010 that shows the massive size of the floating logs under the house. In this picture, the water in the marina where the floating house is being built has receded leaving the house on the ground. We had to wait until the middle of December to start the construction of the floating house so that it would be floating in water once again.
We are praying that we will be living on the floating house by the 21st of April. Please pray that this will become a reality. We are looking forward to the floating house being completed and living on the water. We will live on the floating house at the marina where it is being constructed for about three months. This will give us time to see if there is going to be any problems with the house and we will be close to Manaus in case we need something for it.
Praise: This month has been a busy one for Pastor Brelaz and the treatment center. Your prayers are being answered; homeless Brazilians are being helped and now they have hope. Pastor Brelaz has taken the first two men off the street and they are now at the treatment center. Please pray for these two men that their lives will be changed. The website for the treatment center/homeless ministry now has photos on it. Check it out at www.casareviveramazonas.com just click on photos on the left hand side of the webpage.
Praise: We received a big surprise this past week when we helped with the homeless ministry. For the past few weeks, we have missed helping with the ministry because we have been busy working on the floating house. There is a homeless man and a woman who are usually there to hear the Biblical messages and to partake in the food and drink. Little did we know that in our absence they both accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior and now they are not living on the street anymore. It was amazing to see God’s transformation of these two people! God’s presence in their hearts now bubbles from the inside out! They will be used by God now in a huge way because they are now His ambassadors. Who better to be testimonies for how God can change a life? Please pray for R and L that they would stay strong in their faith and that they would be used by God to help others that are on the street.
This summer Kandi will be here in Brazil with us. She will arrive on May 24th and she is bringing a good friend with her. Annie and Jay will also be coming for two weeks in June. It is going to be really nice having our whole family together! We are excited and blessed by these upcoming events!
- Continue to pray for Afonso (the man who was building the floating house) and his family. Pray that we can still have a relationship with him and his family.
- Please pray that we would be “bold witnesses for Christ” to the men at the marina where the floating house is being built and to all the Brazilians here.
- Please continue to pray for our two daughters and son-in-law.
- Please pray for our parents and other family members.
- Please continue to pray for the homeless adults and children who live on the streets in Manaus.
God has truly blessed us to have you all as part of our team!! We want to thank you for all your prayers, support and encouraging emails. We love you all.
For the glory and honor of Jesus Christ,
Don and Dawn Friesen
